In the fall of 2006, Emily Sawyer heard the words that no woman wants to hear, that she would never be able to have children.

Unwilling to accept one doctor’s prediction, she went on to consult other doctors for second opinions. The truth was her situation wasn’t hopeless but it would take several trips to the doctor and a commitment to live a healthier life if she wanted to conceive. During the many doctor visits that followed her diagnosis, she needed something to help pass the time.

So she picked up her knitting needles and starting making luxurious handmade baby hats. And LibraKnits was born.

Sawyer gave birth to twin girls in May who are doing well. When she brought the girls home from the hospital, she got the news that LibraKnits Baby Hats had been picked by Entrepreneur Magazine as one of the best 100 Ideas for 2010.
