Baby skin care tips

Baby steps to taking better care of your baby’s skin

Ask any parent and they’ll tell you that their world changed when their baby was born. Ask the same parent and they’ll also tell you that their very source of happiness also causes them the greatest of anxieties. Why? Because it can be overwhelming to take care of a baby. There’s feeding and changing and sleepless nights. And that’s just when things are normal. Taking care of a baby is a serious business. And it sure wouldn’t be so bad to get some help from time to time. Let’s start with skin care for your baby.

Baby skin is sensitive and delicate. While skin at this level can be considered to be at its peak since it has experienced minimal to zero damage from external factors, it is also the time when skin is very susceptible to irritations. Being vigilant when it comes to taking care of your baby’s skin will help ensure that your baby stays happy and healthy. And when your baby is happy and healthy, you can breathe a little easier and focus more on just bonding with your baby.

Tips for baby skin care

  • Choose products that are developed especially for baby skin to make sure that all your baby’s skin care needs (mild cleansing, gentle care, and protection) are met. Adult skin care products contain harsh ingredients so it’s not a good idea to share what you use with your baby. You can, however, share what your baby is using. If it’s good enough for your baby, then it will be definitely good for you as well.
  • Skip products that have added fragrances since they can irritate baby skin. Babys have very little need for fragrance anyway since they have this natural smell that’s really great. But if you must, stick to products that have the lightest scents and limit this to about one or two of the products you use. For example, use a fragrance-free baby bath wash with lightly scented baby powder.
  • Babies can cry on their own. You don’t need to help them out in that area so check to make sure that your baby shampoo uses a no-tears formula. No-tear formulas mean that the shampoo is gentle enough for your baby’s sensitive eyes so you keep bath time fun.
  • Natural minerals have been clinically proven to help enhance the skin’s natural barriers for protection. Using baby skin care products that contain natural minerals increases your baby’s resistance level against skin irritations as well as other problems.
  • Don’t forget to moisturize. Baby skin might seem soft and hydrated but it’s still not fully developed enough to be able to quickly compensate on its own for lost moisture, especially in dry and hot conditions. Preventing dryness also helps deter other skin problems that may be caused by the condition.
