My Favorite Apps for Babies

February 1st, 2012

Looking for the perfect apps for babies and toddlers? There are a lot of them but you’ll be glad to know that I have compiled a list of apps for children – babies, toddlers, or even preschoolers – based from my own experience as a mom.

Any Smartphone or Tablet owner out there will tell you that these electronic touch screen devices attract little ones to them. My youngest daughter is always wanting on my iPhone and iPad. I have downloaded some special apps for babies, but I quickly learned that there are many crappy apps out there. I usually download an App, and try it out myself, first, before I give it to my daughter to play on. I learned from experience that a bad App will quickly frustrate my little one.

Apps for babies and toddlers that are tried and tested

One of my all time favorite apps for babies is the MusicSparkleApp from the iTunes App Store. This App is so colorful and fun for little ones. There are many different instruments for your child to choose from, including a xylophone, drums, saxophone, harp, keyboard, recorder, guitar, electric guitar, accordion, harmonica, and pan flute. After your child chooses which instrument to play, they can also choose to have other instruments accompany their playing. The sound is really pretty on the MusicSparkle App, and it has a really simple user interface. MusicSparkle can be downloaded for free, and includes the xylophone, drums, and saxophone. If your child wants to play the other instruments, you will have to purchase the app, but in my opinion, the purchase is well worth it.

Another app my daughter has recently fallen in love with is the Good Night Star App by Sprout. This app has a simple user interface, and has adorable graphics. Your child will have the opportunity to brush Star’s teeth, wash Star’s face, Story Time, Tuck Star in, and Rock Star to sleep. My daughter loves each of the activities within this app so much that she plays on it for quite a while at a time, and the best part is that it is a completely free app.

Zoodle’s Kid Mode app is another one of those free apps for babies and toddlers that we are a big fan of. The app is made by Zoodles, which also has a browser for PC. Once your child has an account (Accounts range from free to paid accounts), on the app, your child will have access to child-friendly videos, and a painting page. The painting page allows your child to unleash their creativity with color. A MUST-have App for every little one!

If your baby is old enough to draw or color, then there is an array of Hello Apps that are offered for free. The apps are HelloChalk, HelloColoredPencil, and HelloCrayons. These free Apps are very simple to use. Your child can choose different options within each to use either crayons, colored pencils, or chalk. Then, they simply use their stylus or finger to color on the iPad canvas before them.

KidSong is a free app that is like a kiddie version of the iPod App. It comes loaded with little children songs that every little one loves. These include: A Tisket, A Tasket, Baa Baa Black Sheep, Down By The Station, Letter A, London Bridge, Oh! Susanna, Rain Rain Go Away, and The Farmer in the Dell. Each song’s lyrics are listed while playing, and the bonus about this App is that the music still plays, even after the app is closed. This makes it possible for your child to play on their other apps while they listen to their favorite kiddie music.

… more apps for babies

All of the Kindergarten.com Apps for babies can be fun and entertaining, because they are like flash cards for your child to click through. After your child clicks through a few flash cards, musical notes and music starts playing. There are many of the Kindergarten.com Apps, and many can be downloaded completely free from the iTunes App Store. Some of my daughter’s favorite free Kindergarten.com Apps are: Alphabet, Zoo, Actions, Fruits & Nuts, Emotions, Eat, Vegetables, Instruments, Sports, Science, Shapes, Play, Vehicles, and Wear. Each of these apps from Kindergarten.com is its own category, and has flashcards from each category. These apps help your child explore the world around them, and be intellectually stimulated with color and verbal cues about the world around them, as well as the world beyond their reach.

My baby girl is absolutely in love with the Toca Doctor App. This app, though simple to play, allows your child to scan and fix the patient. There are different ailments included. Some of these include splinters, little cars in the intestines (when your child gets the car out, it actually farts and makes my daughter crack up), gears in the mind, tarter on teeth, broken bones, and a shot. My daughter really loves the shots, and this app helped her after she had an experience at the doctor with her own shots.

Horse Studio is sort of a My Little Pony knock off app. This app features an adorable pony that looks very similar to My Little Pony’s. Your child can simply click different colors and styles, and the pony will change its body color, hair color and style, hoof color and style, eyes and eye color, as well as a cute background. My daughter really loves changing this adorable little pony.

Another app with amazing graphics that my little one loves is the touch! Woonggas ABC’s App. This little app is very simple to navigate, and teaches ABCs to very young children by saying letters aloud. This app also teaches animals, numbers, and colors. All of the animals are so cute; my daughter has fallen in love with each of them.

PaintSparkles is made by the same company that made MusicSparkles, and it is as cute as MusicSparkles. This is another art app, but when child paints or draws, sparkles and magical sounds play. This makes drawing even more fun than it already is. There are different coloring pages to choose from, and your child can easily navigate through the app to choose the one they want to paint.

There are many more really good apps out there, but the apps that have been listed here are tested and my daughter loves them all. There are so many apps that really frustrate my daughter when she tries to play them. These are the ones that she loves the most, so maybe other babies would love them, too.

How To Make Parenting Simpler With Technology

November 28th, 2010

Excellent parenting is about being devoted to and caring for your child and providing for his or her every need.  A model parent raises a cheerful, healthy, independent, and responsible child.   You have to aid them to develop properly by being a good example.

Strive to be physically and emotionally involved with your child.   Maintain open communication and listen to your kid.  Provide an environment of affection and contentment but set rules and limits for your child to develop self control and independence.

Always control your child through love and affection. Reward your child for good behavior and try to ignore bad behavior so that it is not reinforced. Never be unkind to your child.

Always pay attention to them and be aware of everything that your child goes through.  Keep your kids safe and sound always.  Every ailment or mishap must be dealt with accordingly and swiftly.   Good parenting is difficult, requiring a lot of hard work and patience. Any help is surely appreciated.
