Balancing mommy-baby time
Having a baby changes a lot of things in a person’s life. Aside from physical changes, parents have to deal as well with psychological and emotional changes. And if they’re not careful, these changes might overwhelm them. Nonetheless, having a baby is a special event. It’s going to take a lot from you but it’s going to give back many other things as well.
Staying at home with your baby
Many mothers have to sacrifice their careers in order to look after their children. And when the children grow up, some opt to remain as stay-at-home moms while others eventually go back to the work force. But what if your children aren’t big enough yet? What then should you do to keep your sanity and take care of your baby the best way possible?
The answer is to strike a balance. Keep in mind that baby time can be mommy time as well. If your child is fairly young, this means that you can take him most anywhere. Are you into painting, for example? Use the time that you spend outdoors with your child to gather inspiration for your next work. Bring along your materials and set up a picnic in the park where your child can rest or enjoy the scenery, exposing them to new environs (helps in their development), and you can work away.
Many mothers have apprehensions with staying at home because they feel that they’ll lose a part of them in the process, most especially if they’re used to thriving in a working environment. By making time for yourself, you help ensure that you nurture your interests so you never feel that you’re losing out on anything. You just have to be flexible in finding ways how you can combine baby time with mommy time.
Talk about it
Aside from combining baby time and mommy time, it also helps when the mothers know they have support. Support can come from many sources—from their spouse, their families, their friends, etc—but probably none better than their fellow mothers. Why? Because they’re the ones who truly understand what the other mother is feeling. And knowing that they’re not alone greatly helps a mother get through any issues she might be having.
