During pregnancy, there are many hormonal adaptations happening in a pregnant woman’s body. Digestion slows down and you become resistant to insulin in order for your baby to get more nourishment from the food that you have consumed. Gestational diabetes occurs when these placental hormones overwhelm the capacity of your pancreas to keep your blood sugar at the normal level, so you have high blood sugar levels. this condition affects about 4% of all pregnant women. Diabetes during pregnancy is unfavorable as it brings fetal macrosomia or “fat baby” which can lead to difficult deliveries and birth complications. Thus, it is really important to undergo gestational diabetes mellitus screening when you are pregnant.

Conducting Baby Resuscitation to Reduce Newborn Mortality

It is said that 10 million babies need resuscitation at birth. In the U.S., they have made a memorandum with regards to this issue.

The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) signed a Memorandum of Understanding this week with the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD), Laerdal Medical AS, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), and Save the Children.  The objective of this Global Development Alliance (GDA) is to reduce newborn mortality by expanding access to high-quality, affordable newborn resuscitation training materials and devices, improving the competence of birth attendants to resuscitate newborns, strengthening health systems and promoting global commitment and resources for life-saving newborn care.
